The Evolution of the Windsor Clippers
Established 2003
Now…
The Windsor Clippers franchise was re-born as Greater Windsor Lacrosse in the summer of 2002, as a community owned "Not For Profit" corporation. Friends Mike Soulliere and Peter South decided to try and bring Junior Lacrosse back to Windsor. It had been 20 years since the Windsor Warlocks junior program went into abeyance.
Armed with a $3500.00 donation from the Windsor Warlock Minor Lacrosse association to cover the franchise fee, and numerous letters of support from community partners, the two men made the pitch to join the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League.
After being accepted to play beginning in the spring of 2003, a board of governors was formed, and the hard work began to fund the team, purchase equipment and uniforms, etc. and find sponsors. The AKO Fraternity came on board as the Title sponsor, and the 2003 team was known as the AKO Fratmen.
A few years later the Fraternity folded, and the Clippers were seeking a new title sponsor. A sponsor from day one, Facca Incorporated became and has maintained the Title Sponsorship role for the re-named Windsor Clippers. The Clippers name was used in the 1960's for Senior B Lacrosse locally, and was revived to be used by the current team.
Then…
The Clippers currently participate in the OJBLL. The Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League (OJBLL) is a junior men’s box lacrosse league in Ontario. Sanctioned by the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) and Lacrosse Canada (LC), the Ontario Champion is annually awarded the J. A. MacDonald Trophy and moves on to compete against teams across Canada for the Founders Cup, the National Junior B Lacrosse Championship of Canada. The Clippers are part of the Far West Division and compete against their southwestern Ontario rivals.
FAR WEST DIVISION INCLUDES:
London Blue Devils Point Edward Pacers Wallaceburg Red Devils Windsor Clippers
The most recent success of the Clippers was winning the Western Conference in 2022, bringing home the Marlene Soulliere Trophy. The Marlene Soulliere Trophy is named after long-time Clippers volunteer, wife of Clippers GM, Mike Soulliere and mother to VP, Andrew Soulliere. Marlene passed away in July 2022 during the Clippers historic run to the Western Championship. The OBJLL were kind enough to name this award in her honour.
